A Y Yancey, Jr. Obituary

AY Yancey, Jr., age 90 of Oneida, TN, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 at his home.  Born March 1, 1930, he was the son of the late A Y, Sr. and Ora Mae Sexton Yancey.  He grew up in the Paint Rock area; and was a member of the Oneida Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother:  Herbert K. and wife Vera Stone Yancey; sisters:  Kathleen Laxton and husband Thermon, Jean Reed and husband Kennedy (Ken); father and mother-in-law:  Harry and Leora Seabolt Carson; brothers-in-law:  Donald Carson and wife Ruby, Arzo Posey, and Tom Reed.

AY was a Veteran of the United States Air Force; worked for Western Union, Tudor and Yager Telephone Construction of Tipton, IN, and for Highland Telephone Cooperative for 39 years.  Around town he was known as ‘The Telephone Man’.  He never met a stranger and was ALWAYS willing to lend a helping hand to ANYONE in need.  Gardening, hunting and fishing, camping and horseback riding were just a few of his favorite things in life.  But most of all, his Lord and family always came first in his life.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years:  Hazel Carson Yancey; daughters:  Donna Tompkins and husband Gary, Kimberly (Kim) Davis and husband Bryan; sons:  Richard (Rick) Yancey, Steven (Steve) and wife Sonya Strunk Yancey, and Wesley and wife Pat Massengale Yancey; grandchildren:  Misty Zachary and Jared Cotton, David and wife Shawna Stephens, Chris and wife Ashley Stephens, Christian Blakeley, Hannah and husband Tyler Blizzard, Treye and Savanna Davis, Cole Yancey, Chase Yancey, Hunter Yancey, Forest Yancey, Shelli, Shelby and Makayla Yancey; six great grandchildren:  AJ, Blake, Kyndle, Kanon, Kage and Bentyn; sister:  Louise Jones; sisters-in-law:  Princess Reed, Kay and husband Curtis Keeton and Mary Crabtree; a host of other nieces and nephews.  They were all very special to him.  And all his friends and workers at Lee’s, McDonald’s and Raezack’s.

Friends may visit with the Yancey family on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. John T. Polk, II officiating.  

Committal service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020 in the Carson Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons:  David, Chris, Treye, Cole, Chase, Hunter, Forest and Christian.  Honorary Pallbearers are:  his nephews and friends.
