Barbara Lee (Smith) Chitwood

Barbara Lee Smith Chitwood, age 89, of the Paint Rock Community of Oneida, TN, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.  Born August 19, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Rev. William Lee and Mable Stephens Smith.  Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oneida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband:  Elbert ‘Torch’ Chitwood; brothers:  James Harold Smith and Robert Smith; sisters:  Shirley Fancher, Judy Smithers and Linda Jackson.

Barbara is survived by her daughters:  Janie Tedder and husband Jack, and Judy Griffith and husband Scott; grandson:  Jason Tedder; granddaughter:  Jamie Tedder; sister:  Mary Lou Foster; as well as many other family members and friends.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to both Quality Home Health and Quality Hospice for all the help they provided through the years in the care of both parents.

Friends may visit with the Chitwood family on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Graveside service will follow in the Mack Phillips Cemetery in the Paint Rock Community of Oneida with Dr. Sean Lee officiating.  Pallbearers will be:  Jack Tedder, Jason Tedder, Scott Griffith, Chris Reneau, Curtis Thompson and Raymond Thompson.
