Bertha (Brewster) Reed

Bertha Brewster Reed, age 89 of Oneida, TN, passed away on Sunday night, October 13, 2024, at the Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center.  Born November 9, 1934, in Oneida, she was the daughter of the late Dave and Kizzie Burke Brewster.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband:  Jerome Denton (J. D.) Reed; brothers:  Ralph and Ronald Brewster, both of Oneida; brothers-in-law:  David Buttram of Oneida; brother-in-law:  Arland Thomas Sharp and sister-in-law:  Dorothy D. Reed Sharp, both of Chattanooga, TN.

Bertha is survived by her son:  Jerry M. Reed of Smyrna, TN; daughter:  Myra Lynne Reed Marcum and husband Robert of Oneida, TN; grandson:  Aaron Samuel Marcum of Oneida; two sisters:  Clarice Brewster Buttram, Wilma Brewster Duncan and husband Harold Dean (Ned); brothers:  David Brewster and wife Betty, and Harold Brewster, both of Oneida; many nieces and nephews, and she was especially close to Gail Duncan Foster of Knoxville, Elaine Duncan Payne and Kristi Duncan Cornelius, both of Oneida; as well as many other family members and friends.

Bertha was known as a good cook (especially her fried chicken), a seamstress, and had a great sense of fashion.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oneida.

Bertha will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in the Hazel Valley Memorial Cemetery.  Dr. Sean Allen Lee of the First Baptist Church will officiate.
