Betty Rose Reed Hood, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Huntsville Manor in Huntsville, Tennessee. She was born on January 31, 1934 in Oneida Tennessee, to Homer and Dillie Troxel Reed. As a child, Betty Rose lived in Port Arthur, Texas, and Glendale, Oregon before returning to Oneida where she graduated from Oneida High School, Class of 1951, and met her husband of thirty-four years, Charles Hood.
During her life, she and her family lived in several places including Brooklyn, New York; Houston, Texas; Lubbock, Texas; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Jacksonville, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia. After raising her family and enjoying a long career as a legal secretary in Atlanta, Georgia, Betty Rose returned to her hometown of Oneida and opened Ramblin’ Rose, a bed and breakfast guest house and event facility. She did not know a stranger. Betty loved family stories and family reunions. She believed in offering a helping hand and often opened her home to those who were just starting out in life.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Lee Reed; and her ex-husband, Charles Irvine Hood. She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Hood, and Kimberly Hood Gasaway and her husband, Mark Gasaway; by her three grandchildren, Charles Ethan Stewart and his wife Mona Trabelsi, Kate Gasaway and her husband, Stuart Terrett, and Megan Gasaway Barron and her husband, Slade; by her two great granddaughters, Evelyn and Audrey Barron; and by her nieces, nephews, and cousins on both the Reed and Troxel side of her family.
Because of the present public health concerns, the visitation and memorial service are postponed to a future date to be announced. There will be a brief graveside gathering at Hazel Valley Memorial Cemetery on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 2:00pm. All are welcome.
