Bill J. Stephens

Bill J. Stephens age 91 years and 10 months of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed from this life on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

He was born April 25, 1928 in Revelo, Kentucky to the late George H. Stephens and Lula (Ward) Stephens.

In addition to his parents, Bill is also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Whalen-Stephens; children, Jack Stephens, Sybill Ann Stephens and Alma Sue Koger; step-children, Finley “Bleachy” Whalen, Jim Whalen, Donald Whalen, and Billy Ray Whalen; brothers, Roy and James Jones, Clyde, Lawrence, Lloyd, and Claude Stephens; and sisters, Norma Stephens, Mae Grundy, and Mable Stephens.

Surviving family include his daughters, Jean Jeffers and husband, Troy, of Oneida, Tennessee and Alene Trammell and husband, Roy, of Strunk, Kentucky; a son, Earl Whalen of Pine Knot; 29 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and 2-great-great-grandchildren who made the 5th generation and Bill was blessed to see, Taven Dolen and Randi Claire Jones.

Bill was a man of Christ and loved nothing more than ministering to others thru music. The Lord blessed him with talent at a young age and he began honoring the Lord’s will at the age of 21, travelling the glory road for 70 years.  Bill was a member of the House of Prayer Church and had been attending the Log Cabin Church where he was song leader. He enjoyed singing, attending church, and family reunions. Bill always loved gathering with his family, especially his grandbabies and nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.  

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. David Burton and Bro. Dow Goodin officiating. Burial is to follow in the Holloway Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday after 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
