Charlie Monroe Griffith, age 78, was born in this world on August 31, 1947, to parents: Everett and Mary Taylor Griffith. He was promoted to his Heavenly home on, Thursday, February 19, 2026, at North Knoxville Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Charlie was a simple and hard-working man who loved to make people smile by giving them something hand made from his wood shop. To know him was to love him. He was a gentle giant that treated everyone he met with kindness and Godly love. He was a loving father, papaw, brother, uncle and friend, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. They were the center of his world.
Charlie loved the Lord. Of all his many titles, Child of God was his favorite. He was always ready to talk about the Lord to anyone that would listen. He was ordained as a deacon January 1976 at Lone Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, and a member at Slick Rock Missionary Baptist Church where he served a a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He loved his church and church family. Also, he was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and soul mate: Carolyn Sue Sexton Griffith; father and mother-in-law: Chester and Oma Sexton; brothers: Clayton, Leamon and Stanley Griffith; sister: Loretta Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law: Steve Marciniak, Betty and Helen Griffith, Albert, Crow and Charley Sexton, and Jean Thrasher; nieces and nephews: Keith, Wayne and Allen Griffith, Clements Marciniak, JoAnn Crowley, and special nieces: Kay Massengale and Shellie Williams; and special friend: Lonzie Griffith.
He is survived by children: Cindy Terry and husband Kevin, Cathy Terry and husband Daniel; grandchildren: Kimber Richmond husband Richie, and Caleb Terry and wife McKenzie; great grandchildren: Ryder and Charlie Richmond, and great grandson on the way: Levi Terry; brothers: James and Mark Griffith; sisters: Bernetta Marciniak; brothers and sisters-in-law: Pam Griffith, Lewis (Judy) Sexton, Milford Sexton, Sheila (Gary) Byrd, Sandy (Mike) Crabtree, and Sharon Sexton and Jeanie Sexton; as well as the many other relatives, friends, and all his ‘other kids’ he has claimed thru the years to mourn his passing.
Friends may visit with the Griffith family on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Massengale and Bro. Buster Massengale officiating. Music will be provided by Mike and Elizabeth Carroll.
Committal service will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Lone Mountain Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #136 of Oneida. Pallbearers will be: James Griffith, Mark Griffith, Richie Richmond, Caleb Terry, Matthew Williams, and Lance Williams.
The funeral procession will leave West-Murley Funeral Home at 10:50 a.m.
