Clara Terry Obituary

Clara Terry, 91 of Oneida passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 29, 2023. She was the daughter of Juber and Thelma Boyatt Blevins of Oneida. She graduated from Oneida High School in 1949 along with her brother Prent Blevins in her graduating class.

Clara began working at a very young as a waitress at Kidd’s Restaurant on Main Street in Oneida. She was also a sales clerk at Lee’s Five and Dime; H. C. Smith store; Della Shoemaker Fountain and Dress Shop; Cooper’s Store and Danny’s Drugs. She was Co-Owner of Leah’s Dress Shop. In 1984 she took a position with H. T. Hackney, Oneida and served there as office manager/financial secretary until her retirement in 2007.

Clara was a born again Christian who loved serving others and loved her church family. She was a
member of the New Haven Baptist Church in Oneida where she served in the WMU, Hospitality
Committee, the church food pantry, and the choir. She served as VP and Committee Chairman of the
Scott County Fair Association; Committee member of the TN Fair Association; Treasurer of the Mountain
Peoples Health Council; Charter member and chairperson of the Salvation Army Unit; and member of
Federal Emergency Management Agency for Scott County. She represented the 569/286 Exchange as
the Secretary/Treasurer of Highland Telephone Cooperative, Inc. and was a board member/officer of
Highland Communications Corporation: Clara was also inducted into the Boys and Girls Hall Of Fame in 2012.


Clara was a volunteer for the following: President of the Business and Professional Women Club of
Oneida; Relay for Life; Scott County Election Committee; TN Agriculture Dept./Home Demonstration
Club of Scott Co.; Scott County Chamber of Commerce/Tourism Committee; Dedication Committee of
Oneida Railroad Overpass; Fall Steam Train Secretary; Big South Fork and Blue Heron Mining Unit
member; participant of the opening of the visitor’s center at Bandy Creek in the BSF; Volunteer at the
Scott County Hospital and Random Access Clinic Dental volunteer. She was very passionate about her
volunteer services at Operation Sharing of Tennessee and loved all the staff like her family.


In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by husband Kelley Terry, brother Prent Blevins, sister
Alene Blevins King and brother in law Paul King and nephew Kelley Blevins.


She is survived by sister in law, Peggy Blevins, nephew Richard (Marilyn) King, nephew Bryan King, niece Annelliese Blevins, niece Leah (Richard) Sexton. Great nieces and nephews: Jessica (Jimmy) Owens, Rhyan (Duff) King-Pennington, Morgan Shepard, Stephan King, Miranda McCoy, Evan (Paige) Sexton, Ethan Sexton, Tyler Arnold and Emalea Sexton. Great-great nieces and nephews: Jordan Chambers, Logan Chambers, Shayne King, Savana Shepard, Alex King, Charlee Shepard, Raelan (Travis)Pennington-Duncan and D.J. and (Jamie) Pennington. Special Friends: Shawna Bertram, Jan and Norma Jean Byrd, Marie Blevins, Edith Foster, Shelva Jones, Karen Jeffers and a host of beloved friends whom are too many to list.  Caregivers: Shery Smith, Nancy Bridges, Wilma Butler and Gwenna Byrd.

Friends may visit with the Terry family on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Bradley Kidd officiating.

Burial will follow in the Smith-Forbis Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Richard King, Bryan King, Richard Sexton, Evan Sexton, Ethan Sexton, Jordan Chambers,
Logan Chambers and Duff Pennington. Honorary Pallbearers: Jimmy Owens and Randy Shelton.
