Clifford O. Garrett Obituary

Clifford O. Garrett, age 91, of Helenwood, TN passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 14, 2022, at his home with his family by his side. Born December 8, 1930, in the Honey Creek community of Fentress County, Clifford was the son of the late Henry Clayton and Flonnie Frances Goad Garrett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and in May 1953 married Onlee Joyce Wright of Robbins. He worked a variety of jobs, including driving a feed truck for Cooper’s Store and at Tibbals Flooring Co. before entering the construction business and building homes.

Clifford was ordained to preach by Rev. James Marcum at High Point Baptist Church and served as pastor at several churches, including New River, Tunnel Hill, High Point, O’possum Rock, Black Creek, and Sovereign Grace. He was a member at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where in latter years he filled in when the church was between pastors. 

In addition to his parents, Clifford was preceded in death by a son, Larry Garrett; sister, Thelma Garrett Terry and husband Milford; brother, Stanford Garrett; father- and mother-in-law, Hobert and Rosia Branim Wright; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Marie Byrd and husband Hubert, Aree Blevins and husband Columbus, Flonnie Blevins and husband William, Hazel Debord and husband Bob, Flora Terry and husband Clyde, Ruth Ainsworth, Wanda Compton, Lois Smith, Linda Wright, Kenneth Wright, and Casto Wright and wife Shirley.

Clifford is survived by his loving wife of almost 69 years, Onlee Wright Garrett. He is also survived by his children: Rick Garrett and wife Helen of Robbins, Tim Garrett and wife Dodie of Morristown, TN, and Kathy Lawson and husband Dexter of Robbins; daughter-in-law, Diana Garrett of Robbins; grandchildren: Ben Garrett and wife Melanie, Jeremiah Garrett and wife Allison, Daniel Garrett and friend Sarah Smith, Rebecca Blevins and husband David, Brandon Garrett and wife Kimberly, Kristi Sharpe and husband Justin, Adam Garrett and wife Courtney, Aaron Garrett and wife Tiffany, Jonathan Lawson and wife Sara, and Nathan Lawson; great-grandchildren: Toby, Rachel and Cooper Garrett, Ruger and Remington Garrett, Paisley Garrett, Rory, RaeLynne and Davin Blevins, Clifford Rhett Garrett, Matthan and Thea Sharpe, Kennedy Garrett, Tucker and Grayson Garrett, and Jacob and Asher Lawson and Evan Prince; brothers-in-law: Guy Ainsworth and Bill Smith; nieces: Sandy Duncan and husband Sonny, and Sharon Arnold; many other nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

A special thank you to the nurses of Professional Case Management and Quality Hospice, especially Brenda Smith.

Friends may visit with the Garrett family on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Davis officiating. Music will be provided by the Brimstone Boys.

Committal service will be on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 12 p.m. in the Black Creek Crossroads Cemetery in Robbins. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Ben Garrett, Jeremiah Garrett, Daniel Garrett, Brandon Garrett, Adam Garrett, Aaron Garrett, Jonathan Lawson and Nathan Lawson.
