David Roy Wilson, Sr., age 81 years and 2 days of Winfield, TN, born in Wilson Ridge on June 2, 1939 at Yamacraw, KY, formerly of Stearns, KY, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Beech Tree Manor in Jellico, TN and was placed in the care of West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida, TN. David was a hard worker all his life. He left home at the age of 14 to move up north to work before he even had a driver’s license. He sent money back home to help his parents. When he was old enough, he got a job at Fisher Body a car manufacturer in Norwood, Ohio. He later became a successful builder. He built many homes in Goshen, Ohio where he lived with his family until 1973. He then moved back to Stearns, KY and remodeled most of the older Stearns homes in the late 1970s and 1980s. He later owned the first Save-A-Lot Store in Oneida, TN in 1985. David later sold Save-A-Lot to retire.
David is survived by his wife, Ann Malone Wilson whom he married on October 20, 1956.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Douglas Bryan Wilson and Steven Lee Wilson along with his brothers and sisters, Doyle Wilson, Dorthy Dixon, Mary Runion, Sue Gibson, Lucetta Wilson, Dora Ross, Junior Wilson, Billy Wilson and 2 infant siblings.
David’s family members are his daughter, Deborah Lynn Stephens (Joe) of Pine Knot, KY; son, David Wilson II (Gail) of Stearns, KY; daughter-in-law, Alma Wilson of Winfield, TN; grandson, David Wilson III (Rebecca); granddaughters, Brittany Wilson, April Fisher (Billy), Leslie Perry (Johnny); grandsons, Douglas Bryan Wilson, Jr. (Morgan), Nicholas Wilson and Dustin, James Wilson; and granddaughter, Tiffany Wilson.
Great grandchildren are Emily Horner, Jacob Perry, Olivia Perry, Elijah Wilson, Callyn Wilson, Lydia Gayle Wilson and David Wilson IV. David loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Friends may visit with the Wilson family on Saturday, June 6, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Perry officiating. Music will be provided by the Chitwood family.
Committal service will follow in the New Light Cemetery in Winfield where he will be laid to rest by his sons, Doug Wilson and Steve Wilson.
