Delphia Phillips Baldwin, age 99, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. She was born in Oneida, TN on June 12, 1921. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Oneida where she was saved in 1930. She was a local business owner of B&B Carpet for over 33 years along with her husband. Prior to B&B Carpet, they were in the coal business from the late 1940s to 1971, where they moved from Roaches Creek, Tennessee to Evarts, Kentucky, Hiram, Kentucky and Cumberland, Kentucky chasing work in the coal fields when work was hard to find.
She served as social secretary for the Bible Learners Sunday School class for many years, taught second grade Sunday School classes, aided in establishing and working in First Baptist Church Mission, started Bible School programs and Sunbeams in rural areas, and helped establish the PTA in the Norma community.
She was a tremendous cook with a nurture to feed her guest, gift of hospitality and host of the family reunions for many years. She grew up helping in her father’s store and roller rink and could skate well into her later years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Reece Baldwin; parents, Elmer (Boog) and Etha Phillips; brothers, Claude B. Phillips, Elmo L. Phillips and Edward C. Phillips; her sisters, Selma Phillips McGibney, Ottie Phillips Sexton, Cleo Phillips Baker, Edna Phillips Heth, and Lucille Phillips Wright; and one grandson, Nathan Baldwin.
Delphia is survived by two daughters, Doris Baldwin Booher (Ronnie) of Dalton, GA and Reecia Baldwin Harrell (George) of Jacksonville, FL; one son, Roger Ray Baldwin (Karen) of Oneida, TN; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many other treasured family and friends.
Friends may visit with the Baldwin family on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home.
Committal service will follow in the Hazel Valley Memorial Cemetery in Oneida.
