Dennis Lee Sexton Obituary

 

Dennis Lee Sexton, age 82, departed this life at home on Saturday, September 3, 2022.  Born May 3, 1940 in Scott County, TN, he was the son of the late Kermit Sexton and Hannah Yancey Sexton.  He was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church in Oneida where he was a former deacon. Dennis was a retired lineman that worked at Plateau Electric for 47 years.  He was also a former Scott County Commissioner. After graduation from Oneida High School, he was a scholarship football player for the University of Kentucky.  

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by father-in law Edson Bilbrey and mother-in-law Lela Griffith Bilbrey; sister Clolene Jeffers and husband Ervin, brothers Steve Sexton, and Kenneth Sexton and wife Brenda; brothers-in-law Steve Phillips, David Bilbrey and wife Madeline. 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Carolyn Bilbrey Sexton, son Brian Sexton and wife Kaye; granddaughters Brianne Upchurch and husband Jared, Lauren Hamby and husband Jeremy; grandson Trevor Sexton and wife Michelle; 6 great grandchildren: Keithan Upchurch, Abram Upchurch, Evalea (Little Bit) Upchurch, Liam Sexton, Elizabeth Hamby, and Olivia Hamby; sister Carolyn Sue Smith and husband Joe; sister-in-law:  Jane Phillips; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  The family extends a special thank you to Hospice nurses Brenda Smith, Amanda, and Kendra as well as caregivers Michelle Ashcraft, Melissa Bowman, Joann Hutson, Juanita Hatfield and Charlotte Alford.

Friends may visit with the Sexton family on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones and Son Funeral with Dr. Sean Allen Lee and Johnny Acres officiating.  Music will be provided by Jane Phillips and Brianne Upchurch. 

Committal service will follow in the Hazel Valley Cemetery.  Pallbearers are: Trevor Sexton, Jared Upchurch, Jeremy Hamby, Shane Smith, Bobby West, and Heath Phillips.  Honorary Pallbearers are: Johnny Acres, Pat Garrett, and David Evans.
