Doug Lloyd

Doug Lloyd, age 61 of the New River community, passed away on Sunday, January 18th. He was the son of the late Carlie and Vivian (Zachary) Lloyd.

Known for his lovable, one-of-a-kind personality, Doug was considered a friend to everyone. Whether he was coaching youth sports or educating students at the SHS Alternative Center, Doug was a beloved mentor to countless children throughout the community.

Doug’s most cherished roles were that of a loving father and the world’s greatest Poppy. Most importantly, he was a born-again, Bible-believing Christian who boldly professed his faith and loved the Lord Jesus Christ with his whole heart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Rev. Jerry and Betty (Griffith) Zachary, and Wiley and Ernie (Lawson) Lloyd, as well as many other special uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Doug is survived by his two sons, whom he lovingly raised as a devoted single father: Aaron Lloyd and wife Laura, and Cody Lloyd and wife Autumn; and his four grandsons who adored him: Gabe and Grayson Barnes, Luke Lloyd, and Dexter Lloyd. He is also survived by a host of special cousins and other relatives, as well as the members of Bible Believers Baptist Church - whom he considered to be family, especially the kids and teens that he loved to teach at VBS.

Friends may visit with the Lloyd family on Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 4 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Joey Zachary and Bro. Aaron Lloyd officiating. Music will be provided by Kermit and Charlotte Phillips and Luke Lloyd.

Committal service will be on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. in the Reed Cemetery in Huntsville. Pallbearers will be: John Sexton, Benji Zachary, Bill Hall, Scott Cash, Michael Lloyd, Johnny West, Doug Clark, and Stephen Trotter.
