Elsie Phillips, age 91 of Oneida, TN passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on February 18, 1934, in a coal camp in Hazard, KY to Willard and Emily (West) Honeycutt. Her childhood was spent on Capuchin Mountain. Then, as a young woman her family lived on Ditney Trail until she met and married James H. Phillips of Highpoint where she raised her children and loved helping raise her children’s children and then theirs as well. She worked hard for her family her whole life, when there was a need she was there. She retired from Tennier Industries after 35 years of service at the age of 84 to enjoy her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Emily Honeycutt; her husband, James Phillips; all her siblings, Henry, Eva, Dave, Tommy, Josh; one son, Dewayne Phillips and wife Wanda; in-laws, Arthur and Daisy; sister-in-law, Jewell Phillips; grandsons, Jared Draughn and Seth York.
Elsie is survived by her daughter, Elaine Byrge and husband John of Highpoint; grandsons, Wesley Byrge (Sonya) of Mims, FL, Eric Byrge (Denise) of Highpoint; great granddaughters, Ashley Chambers (Adam) of Highpoint, Katie Byrge (Justin) of Ditney Trail; great grandson, Damean Byrge of Highpoint; great-great grandchildren, Erin and Ryker who she cherished; special niece, Cathy Day; special nephew, Eddy Honeycutt; grandchildren, Tonja Draughn, Teresa York, Howard York; great grandchildren, Tasha Draughn, Jessie Draughn, Jason Draughn, Mikey Draughn, Noah and Elijah Massey, McKayla Miller (Josh), and Paige York; special friend, Alvis Massey; many other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the Phillips family on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 2 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. J.R. Massengale officiating. Music will be provided by Kenny Newport and Brenda Chambers.
Committal service will follow in the Orick Cemetery in Huntsville.
