Elva Newport Chambers of Oneida, TN passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 27, 2024, with her children by her side. She was born on June 3, 1956, in Oneida, TN. She was the loving daughter of the late Wanda Ruth Newport and the granddaughter of the late Geneva Thompson. Elva was a member of the Oneida High School Class of 1974 and a member of Oneida First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Sapphire Chapter 259.
Elva enjoyed embroidery and reading, being treated to dinner and a movie in Oak Ridge by her grandson Byron, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and always sending encouraging words to those dear to her on Facebook. She was generous, kind, and loving to everyone she met and knew. Her entire world revolved around her daughter, Tracey, whom she cared for until the last minute of her life. Elva made a lasting impact on her family, friends, and community and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one niece, Amy Newport and one great nephew, Cole Newport.
Elva is survived by her loving children: Greg Chambers (Dewayne), Kristie Slavey (Jeff), and Tracey Chambers; her loving grandchildren: Marissa Slavey Taylor (Sam), Byron, Alexis, and Piper Slavey; one great grandchild: Sawyer Cole Taylor; two brothers: David Newport (Marie) and Keith Newport; one niece: Melanie Jones (Joe); two nephews: Shane Newport (Micah) and Travis Newport (Sidney); one great uncle: John Roy Thompson; and her furry friend: Pebbles. She is also leaving behind many other cherished family members and friends to mourn her passing.
Friends may visit with the Chambers family on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 4 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Marcum officiating. Music will be provided by Allen Martin.
Committal service will follow in the H.C. Smith Cemetery next to her mother. Pallbearers will be: Dewayne Jeffers, Byron Slavey, Jeff Slavey, Shane Newport, Sam Taylor, and Wes Cross. Honorary pallbearers will be: Greg Chambers, Alexis Slavey, Travis Newport, and Sawyer Cole Taylor.
