Gerald "Jack' Chitwood Obituary

Gerald Dean ‘Jack’ Chitwood departed this life on December 18, 2023, peacefully at his home. Born May 1, 1936, in Winfield, TN, he was the son of the late Ray O. and Fernie Price Chitwood.  

He retired from U.S. Air Force after 22 years as Master Sergeant and took pride defending our country. He returned to Oneida and worked for DH Walker Oil, from which he retired again. He loved jeep riding, gardening and his dogs, D and Dash. He was a life member of American Legion Post 136 and VFW Post 5669 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 91. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Nannie Jo Sexton Chitwood, mother and father-in-law, Harry and Daisy Means Sexton, brothers Leland wife Edna, Ray O. Jr. and wife Ruth, and Pauline Douglas and husband Cecil, daughter-in-law, Kaye Chitwood, great grandson, Jonah Sexton and special caregiver, Julie Roberts.

He is survived by his children, Jerri and husband Bruce Murphy, and Joey and wife Jill Chitwood, grandchildren: Jessica and Jared Blevins, Jackie and Jared Sexton, Micah and Alyssa Chitwood, Justin Losey and RJ King, great grandchildren: Ryder, Josie, and Ben Sexton, Blake Clark, Brock, Jack and Charlee Jo Blevins, and Wilder Chitwood, and many nieces and nephews, special friends: Bob Chitwood, Ron Keeton and Clyde Welch, special caregivers: Shirley Duncan, Delores Dearman, Tonya Godsey and Virginia Harness.

Friends may visit with the Chitwood family on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Kilby and Porter Mayberry officiating. Music will be provided by Jordi Ball.  Full Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #136 of Oneida. 

Jack’s wishes were cremation.
