Hubert L. Duncan

Hubert L. Duncan, age 97 of Oneida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the Big South Fork Medical Center. Born October 9, 1924, in Oneida, TN to Lonnie Lee and Liza Jane Yancey Duncan. Hubert had a strong faith in the Lord and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served many years as a Trustee.  Hubert was a 1943 graduate of Huntsville High School where he served as Captain of the basketball team his junior and senior years. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a Medic for 3 years in France and England. He was a long-term employee of Tibbals Flooring Company, retiring in 1994 after 48 years. He was also a member of the Citizens Gas Utility Board of Directors for 25 years.

In addition to his parents, Hubert is preceded in death by his in-laws Albert and Estella (Coffey) Vaughn, sister Marine Hall and husband Sam, sister Delone Keeton and husband Junior; brothers-in-law Curtis Sexton and Leonard Terry, Jr.; sister-in-law Helen Gipson and husband Claude Jr., and sister-in-law Betty Baker Vaughn.

Hubert is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Phyllis Ann Vaughn Duncan, son Bill Duncan and wife Melanie, daughter Jane Lloyd and husband Joey, and grandchildren: Skye Lloyd, Tyler Lloyd and wife Allison, Ryan Duncan and wife Stephanie, and Leigh Culver and husband Blake, great grandchildren: Luke and Cash Lloyd, Rylan and Peyton Duncan, and Blakelee, Hudson, Collins, and Duncan Culver, and sisters Raylene Terry and Geneeda Sexton, and brother Harold Dean (Ned) Duncan and wife Wilma; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.  

The family would like to extend thanks to special caregivers Jeannie Phillips, Wilma Butler and Deecie Buttram. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Josh Thompson and staff, the  employees of Quality Home Health, and the Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center.

Friends may visit with the Duncan family Friday, September 30, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Bro. Jason Burress and Bill Hall officiating. Music will be provided by Dallas West and Jeff Cornelius.

Committal service will follow in the Litton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyler Lloyd, Ryan Duncan, Blake Culver, Dane Buttram, Mike Keeton, and Gary (Tip) Sexton. Honorary pallbearers will be Skye Lloyd, Luke Lloyd, Cash Lloyd, Blakelee Culver, Hudson Culver, Collins Culver, Duncan Culver, Rylan Duncan, and Peyton Duncan.
