James Byrd

James Byrd, age 84, of Oneida, TN, went home to be the Lord on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. Born in Scott County, Tennessee on September 13, 1940, and was the son of the late Willard and Della J. Byrd.

He was a member of the Pine Creek United Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Willie Leona (Garrett) Byrd; sister: Wilma and husband Calvin Griffith; brother: Benny Byrd.

He is survived by is son: David Byrd and wife Renee; one grandson, Garet Byrd; one brother, Jerry Byrd and wife Wanda; two sisters, Bernice Myers and husband James and Glenna Sue Flowers and husband Richard. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit the Byrd family on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 3 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 5 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Marcum and Bro. Brady Goad officiating.

Music will be provided by Tony Daugherty.

Committal service will follow in the Mount Helen Cemetery in Jamestown, TN. Pallbearers will be: Matthew Garrett, Tim Loggins, Ronnie Duncan, Luther Myers, Wesley Yancey, and Mark Terry. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tim Burchfield, and Randy Fields.
