James (Jim) Oscar West Obituary

James (Jim) Oscar West 80, died on Friday, March 20, 2020 at his residence in Bonita Springs, FL, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born January 16, 1940 in Oneida, TN, a son of the late Oscar L. and Alta L. (née Gibson) West. Also a resident of Lake St. Louis, MO, he had been wintering in Bonita Springs for the past 19 years and most recently made Bonita Springs his home.

He was a graduate of Oneida High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee.

After graduation he began his career as a Field Engineer with Stromberg-Carlson Corporation before spending seven years in Honolulu, Hawaii first with the company Telos as Vice President of Operations, then joining Tel-A-Com Hawaii, Inc. as Vice President of Engineering. Switching careers he moved his family to St. Louis, MO where he joined his father-in-law at McKee Realty as the Vice President of Commercial Real Estate and Development. He eventually became owner and spent a total of 42 years with the company.

He also spent 30 years on the Board of Directors at St. John’s Bank and Trust Company. When Jim was not working he loved to travel the world, visit family, and boat on Lake St. Louis!

He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Ray West (née Stratton) of Bonita Springs, FL; five beloved daughters, Kimberly D. McKinney (Martin) of Clinton, TN, Delisa L. Helton (Tony) of Murfreesboro, TN, Andria M. West of St. Louis, MO, Shannon M. West (Jennifer Casson) of Boulder, CO and Allison M. Pacifico of St. Louis, MO.; two step-children, Suzanne M. Ray (Charles McKay) of Pueblo, CO and Stephen P. Ray (Lindsay) of San Diego, CA; 9 grandchildren, Tressa Walker, Devin Welch, McKenzie Welch, Weston Helton, Parker Helton, Blake Pacifico, Chase Pacifico, Mia Pacifico and Rocco Casson West; two step-grandchildren, Ashley Ray and Andrew Ray and 6 great-grandchildren, Kendyl West, Tait West, Elli West, Prayleigh Welch, Brody Chambers and Dylan Chambers.

Due to the current circumstances with the coronavirus, a Memorial Service to celebrate his life is being planned for later this year in Bonita Springs, FL and St. Louis, MO and will be announced at a later date.
