Lonnie W. Ayers

Lonnie W. Ayers of Huntsville, TN passed away at his home on December 29, 2022.  Lonnie was a loving father, brother, and son, with an undying loyalty to those whom he loved. He was a respected attorney and member of the Scott County, TN legal community.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lon & Flora Ayers, as well as his wife Sandra Ayers, brothers Rick Ayers, Frank Ayers, Merrell Ayers and Darnell Ayers, sisters, Gwendolyn Hunt and Leonetta Parkey. 

He is survived by his children Flora Mae & Courtney Ayers of Huntsville, TN, Ashley Ayers, Nashville, TN, Adrienne Ayers, Henderson, KY, Lonnie Rick Ayers, Mt. Vernon, IL and Julie Ayers, Mt. Vernon, IL, his granddaughter Marnie whom he adored, his sisters Hannah Ayers Morgan Georgetown, KY and Nancy Ayers Edwards of Lexington, KY, brother Russell Ayers, Franklin, OH, nephews Warren Edwards, Cody Ayers, Jason & Joseph Ayers, nieces Katie and Libby Morgan and Rikki-Ann Ayers.

Lonnie was born and raised in Harlan County, Kentucky in the Louellen community, where he attended Closplint Church of God. He attended Red Bird High School where he excelled both academically as well as athletically. After high school, he worked as a coal miner for a number of years. He suffered a significant mining accident in 1996, but that did not get him down. Through his rehabilitation he finished his undergraduate degree at Eastern Kentucky University, then went on to attend Appalachian School of Law where he graduated with honors. He served on the Scott County Rescue Squad, Member of the Tennessee Bar Association as well as many other community organizations. Lonnie experienced many adversities in his life, but always found a way to overcome any obstacle with a smile and an absolute quick wit. Lonnie was an amazing brother, father, son and friend and we will remain broken hearted at this loss.

Services will be conducted on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Jones & Son Funeral Home with visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with a Celebration of Life following. He will be laid to rest in Resthaven Cemetery in Harlan County, Kentucky on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 2 p.m. with graveside service with the Rev. Bill Moore officiating.
