Loyd Lawson, age 82, gained his wings Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 2:08 AM at Parkwest Medical Center surrounded by his children and their families.
Loyd was born November 23, 1942, in Cordell, TN. In his career he worked for Tennessee Asphalt and Georgia Asphalt. He worked For Tremble and Lawson Masonry as a brick mason, and he also worked in KY as a well driller. His least favorite was brick mason.
He enjoyed attending church, he loved to sing, playing guitar, harmonica and had many talents; when he was younger he loved playing baseball. He loved watching Westerns, he liked many shows like “Andy Griffith” but his favorites were “The Rifle Man” and Gun Smoke.” He loved taking walks. He loved to fish. He was an early riser. He loved old cars and trucks. His favorite childhood memory was “listening to his mother pray.” Most of all dad loved telling his jokes. He had a great sense of humor. He was always making someone smile.
Loyd is preceded in death by his parents Dilmon and Della Lawson; son, Michael Lawson; brothers, Felin Lawson, Segal Lawson, Virgil Lawson, Junior Lawson, Clifton Lawson, Lonnie Lawson, Clark Lawson, Voyd Lawson; sisters, Dessie Lawson, Nellie Lawson, Imogene Crowley and Barbara Strunk.
Loyd is survived by his son, Brad Lawson and wife Amanda of Oliver Springs; daughter, Michelle Ray and husband Chris of Oliver Springs; brother, Gary Lawson and wife Wanda of Huntsville; sisters, Rosalee Lawson of Huntsville and Dixie Pyles of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Isaiah Ray, Markus Lawson, Wesley Lawson, Aubrey Ray, Dalton Lawson, and Lexi Lawson; and by several wonderful nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends; and his wonderful caregivers and wonderful friends from Decatur Rehab, especially Tracy, “Red.”
Friends may visit with the Lawson family on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 2 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Carlie Duncan and Bro. Dudley Harness officiating. Music will be provided by the Duncan Family.
Committal service will follow in the Cook Cemetery in the Winona community. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
