Mary Etta Smith Obituary

Mary Etta Smith, age 81 of Oneida, TN passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at her home. Born in Hamilton, Ohio on August 26, 1940, she was the daughter of the late James and Nora Lipscomb. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Oneida. She was a retired schoolteacher having taught 1st grade at Oneida Elementary School for 31 years from June 12, 1968 to 1999. She loved teaching children to read.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Harold Smith; daughter, Eleanor Ann (Smith) Phillips; son-in-law, Tom Phillips; sisters, Dolores Smith, Ruth Betcher, and Barbara Weisenberg; and brother, Edward Lipscomb.

She is survived by her son, Ranson Smith; grandsons, Thomas Bruce Phillips and Garrett Ranson Smith and granddaughter, Natalie Rae Smith and their mother Jami Smith; many friends. Thank you to her special friends, Kasie Marcum, Lisa Griffith, and Kathy Rose. Thank you to Quality Hospice, Brenda Smith was great.

Friends may visit with the Smith family on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Blake Dunlap officiating.

Committal service will follow in the Hazel Valley Memorial Cemetery in Oneida. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
