Mary Jo Duncan

Mrs. Mary Jo Duncan, age 79 of Hermitage, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020. She was born in Huntsville, Tennessee, to the late Archie “Joe Bush” Sexton and Christine Stephens Sexton. Mary Jo held hands with her future husband, Roy Duncan, in the first grade and they have been together ever since. She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting snow babies and blouses. If Mary Jo found a blouse she liked, she would buy it in every color available. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Willie Joe Duncan, and sisters, Evelyn Miner and Shirley Roberts.

Mary Jo is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Roy Duncan; daughter, Deborah (Jimmy) Gilbert; three grandchildren, Chad (Jessica) Gilbert, Melissa (Jonathan) Gibson and Alice Joe Duncan; six great grandchildren; three siblings, Martha Lou Hague, Virginia Rose Law and Paul “Dennie” (Lisa) Sexton; numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many close friends.

Visitation will be at Hermitage Funeral Home on Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Monday, February 10, 2020 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.

The Celebration of Life will be at Hermitage Funeral Home on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm with Tim Jeffers officiating.

Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Gilbert, Chad Gilbert, Jonathan Gibson, Rick Howell, Noah Howell and Tim Birdwell. Honorary pallbearer will be: Paul “Dennie” Sexton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary Jo’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2000 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee 37203, or to the American Heart Association, Greater Southeast Affiliate, PO Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284.
