It is often said that a man’s life can be determined through the condition of his hands and the strength of his faith. While Mickey Thomas’ hands were battle worn from countless carpentry projects, clinging to ships’ rails while cruising the open seas, or plucking on his treasured guitar – it is how they ended that truly mattered.
Mickey Thomas, 78, of Saulsbury, Tennessee, had his hand held by his wife, Vicki Thomas as we bid this wonderful man his last farewell and he ventured off to finally shake the hand of his savior.
Mickey passed away peacefully on May 27, 2022, in Knoxville, Tennessee surrounded by his family and a gathering of angels all of whom, he told us he knew.
Mickey’s illustrious life was begun on October 22, 1943. And, like starting a masterpiece on a blank canvas, he was born in the flatlands of Wichita, Kansas to Henry J. Thomas, and Doris Coble.
Mickey led an adventurous life, from being a police officer in Long Beach, California to working on his floating home (and countless boat projects) outside Portland, Oregon. He was the type of man that valued hard work, a good pocketknife, and always changed the oil at 3,000. He found respite and peace at the drumming of a hammer in hand. He mandated a brief, yet heartfelt prayer before every meal. He knew and practiced the virtues of family, faith, and freedom.
Many of his family members were waiting for him with open arms. His parents, his brother Tim Thomas, and his son, Keith Thomas.
Those left behind to carry on his legacy are his wife, Vicki Thomas; his daughter, Kristin McNamara and family; his son, Tye Thomas and family, and his son, Trevor Thomas and family. And we cannot forget the small tribe of Jack Russell dogs that will forever miss their Mickey.
Mickey was a member of the St. Paul Episcopal Church in Corinth, Mississippi.
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Carson Memorial Park in Oneida, Tennessee.
