Rev. Ralph Simpson Obituary

Rev. Ralph Simpson, age 89, departed this life to be with the Lord with his loving family by his side on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Born in Scott County, Tennessee, August  24, 1932, he was the son of the late Neal and Belle Simpson.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife of 62 years, Wilma (Chitwood) Simpson; sister, Janie (Simpson) West; father-in-law, Lloyd Clay Chitwood; mother-in-law, Essie Evelyn (Chitwood) Waters; brothers-in-law, Dave O’Sullivan, Bill West, L. C. Chitwood and niece, Melanie Chitwood.

He was a faithful man of God as he professed faith in Christ and called to the ministry where he pastored several local churches in Scott and McCreary Counties.  He was presently a member of Round Top Baptist Church. His greatest desire was to live long enough to see his children and grandchildren saved into God’s Kingdom which was fulfilled when he baptized both of his grandchildren in his later years of ministry.

He served his country as a U.S. Army mechanic for a Tour of Duty in Germany and France near the end of the Korean War.

Ralph is survived by his two loving children, Shellia Kidd of Winfield, Tennessee and Tim Simpson and wife Stacey of Oneida; two grandchildren, Shawna and husband Nick Stephens of  Knoxville; and Brandon Simpson of Oneida; sisters: Vonda O’Sullivan of Bethesda, Maryland, and Shirley and husband Ralph Jeffers of Oneida; two sisters-in-law Vicky Taylor of Oneida, and Charlotte and husband Larry Wright of Knoxville; one brother-in-law, Wayne and wife Doris Chitwood of Oneida; nieces: Mary Humphrey,  Janet and husband Eddie Martinez, Diane and husband Vince Depietro, Megan and husband Ryan Byrge, Tiffany and husband Dustin Kizer, and Jodi Chitwood; nephews: Chad and wife Lauren Steelman and Jordan Chitwood.  He also leaves a host of other family and friends.

Many abundant thanks to his special caregivers, Brenda and Cody Carson, for their kindness and gentle care shown to him during his illness.

Friends may visit with the Simpson family on Monday, April 18, 2022, from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Trammell and Bro. Steve Stanley officiating.
