Obituary
Roger D. Byrd, age 76 of Savannah, TN, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the Jackson Madison General Hospital. Born August 8, 1945, in the Brimstone Community of Scott County, TN, he was the son of the late John Ramsey and Rhoda Hutson Byrd.
Roger loved the lakes and rivers, fishing and hunting for ginseng; and worked as a general contractor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: an infant brother and sister, Fred and Elizabeth Byrd, Arvil Lee and Mary Helen Byrd, Hazel and George Daugherty, Opal Byrd, James West, Lonzo and Nora Byrd; brothers-in-law: Bob Sexton and Edd Foster; nephews: Kent West and Stevie Byrd; niece: Euangeline West; grandparents: Oliver and Marnevia Byrd, and John and Deliah Hutson.
He is survived by his daughter: Patsy Byrd Hicks, and Patsy’s sisters: Teresa Freytag and Jewell Woodward; grandchildren: Britten, Shandon, and Shytanna Lewallen; brother: Frank Byrd of Apopka, FL; sisters: Lola Sexton Neal and Herb of Robbins, TN, and Hattie Foster of Oneida, TN. Two very special nieces that were his caregivers: Sharon and Angie Byrd, who cared for him the past years. He loved them much and all others. Special nephew and wife: Arnold and Diana Byrd. All of Savannah TN who helped with his trips to his doctor appointments. Nephews and nieces: Dwayne Sexton, Darren and Christina Sexton, Chris and Christy Sexton, and Regina Sexton and Justin, Bridgett and Hedrick Mason, Rhonda Foster, Rosetta Trice, Pauletta and Steve Jeffers, Sharon Byrd, Crystal Byrd H, Angie Brown, Geraldine Walker, Loraine Rimes, Teresa and Jerry Jeffers, Arnold and Diane Byrd, Cinda and Mack Harness; Great nieces and nephews: Gage, Zack, Shaylee, Keely, Josh, Hunter, Chase, Maleeke, Malachi, Eddie, Zachary, Dustin, Brayden, Mealinda, Connie, Stephanie, Shawn, AJ, Wendy, Tyniah, Travis, Renee, Robert and many other relatives and friends.
Private services for the Byrd family will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Smithers officiating. Music will be provided by Headrick Mason.
Committal service will follow in the Black Creek Cross Roads Cemetery in Robbins, TN.
