Rosetta Hicks Obituary

Mrs. Rosetta Jones Hicks, 93 of Helenwood, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at the Oneida Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with her family by her side.  Born on September 24, 1929, in Bronston, Kentucky, Rosetta was the daughter of the late Charlie and Dona Casada Jones.

In addition to her parents, Rosetta was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Hicks, and siblings Irene Mounce, Hulon Jones, Robert Jones, and Hubert Jones, all of Somerset, Kentucky.

Rosetta is survived by children, Arnold & Dyanna Stephens and Loyd & Betty Stephens of Helenwood, and Carol & Steve Keener of Versailles, Kentucky.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Ursula Graves, Gretchen Stephens, Salena Mayberry, Chris Keener, Emily Brooks, Carrie Cabell, and Rachel Blakney, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.  Rosetta also leaves behind siblings Jean Hardwick (Sissy), and Brent Jones, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Rosetta was a lifelong resident of the Helenwood community, and a faithful member of the Helenwood Baptist Church, where she enjoyed attending services and singing in the choir.  Cooking for her family, the people of the church, and the community was her life-long passion.  She served as the cafeteria manager at Huntsville Middle School for many years, until the time of her retirement.

Visitation will be held in the sanctuary of the Helenwood Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Funeral services, conducted by Chris Keener and Michael Cabell, will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a committal ceremony to follow in the Daniel Memorial Cemetery.  Music will be provided by her family and the Helenwood Baptist Church Choir.  Pallbearers will be Porter Mayberry, Richard Graves, Jeremie Brooks, David Blakney, Zacch Brown, Logan Brown, and Joel McCartt.

The family would like to thank all those who have sent cards, made visits, and prayed for Rosetta over the years.  A special thanks to the management and staff of the Oneida Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Oneida and to the West Murley Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Helenwood Baptist Church Building Fund or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
