Sammy James (Jody) Evans, age 64 of the Black Oak Community, went home to his heavenly Father on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Cumberland Village in Lafollette, TN after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Scott County, Tennessee on July 19, 1958, to the late Lonzo James and Mennie Ruth Evans.
He was a graduate of Scott High School. He accepted Christ as his Savior at home with friends on July 12, 2022.
Jody was a kind man, and a loving son. He was employed by Shepherd Trucking at the time of his death. In his younger years he worked in the oil well industry, then sawmills and logging. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by Parents, Lonzo James and Mennie Ruth Evans; sister, Linda Evans; grandparents, Edd and Laura Blevins and John and Martha Evans.
Jody is survived by nephew, Jason Evans, and wife Derita of Oneida; aunts, Wanda Sue Blevins (Joe), Shirley Kay Burke (Jesse); uncle, Tom Blevins (Susie), Argie Evans (Louise) all of Oneida. He also leaves a host of cousins in Scott and Fentress counties. Thanks to all who loved him and helped take care of him.
Friends may visit with the Evans family on Monday, August 15, 2022, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home.
A graveside service will follow in the Katie-Blevins Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with Bro. Bradley Kidd officiating.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
