William Jerry Ferguson, age 88 of Oneida, TN, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 21, 2022, with his family by his side after a lingering illness. He was born July 16, 1934, in Tellico Plains, he was the son of the late Carl and Bulah Ferguson.
During his life he loved reading his Bible, enjoyed his grandchildren and spending time in his workshop working on furniture or building guns. But more importantly, he loved God and sought to serve and honor him in many ways. He was an ordained Deacon and long-time member of First Baptist Church of Oneida, where over the years he served on several committees and taught a Boys Sunday School Class. Jerry was a Veteran of the United Sates Army and served in Germany in the post WWII era.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter: Leesa K. Thompson; sister: Eva Coppenger; brothers-in-law: R. V. Coppenger, Homer Chapman, Barry Murrin, Buddy Thompson, and Arvil Goins; sisters-in-law: Glenda Thompson, Susan Thompson, and Mary Thompson.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years: Gaynell Thompson Ferguson; daughter: Jenni Crane and husband Tim; three very loved grandchildren: Connor Thompson and wife Tara, Taylor and Emma Crane; sisters-in-law: Wanell Chapman, Carolyn Goins and Mary Alice McGinnis; brothers-in-law: Jimmy Thompson, Tommy Thompson and Rick McGinnis; as well as many other family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to both Dr. Tim Smith and his dedicated staff at Grace Primary Care and the TN Cancer Specialists Group for the wonderful care they provided over the years. Also, the family thanks his special friends at Phillips Drive-In: John, Theresa, Tammy and ‘his girls’ Angel and Erica for taking such good care of him as he hung around there drinking his morning coffee.
Friends may visit with the Ferguson family on Thursday, August 25, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, Oneida, TN, with Bro. Philip Kazee and Bro. Sean Lee officiating. Special music will be provided by: Bro. Allen Martin, and Tim Crane.
