Obituary

Wilma Jane (Yancey) McGhee, age 90 of the Paint Rock Community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center in Oneida, TN. She was of the Church of God Faith and was saved at an early age. Born in Scott County, TN on January 2, 1933, Wilma was the daughter of the late Alvis and Bethsheba (Sexton) Yancey.  She later resided in Clinchmore, TN, married and moved to Dayton, Ohio. She then returned to Scott County where she finished out her life. She enjoyed cooking Friday dinners for family and friends, welcoming everyone with hugs and kisses, and making sure everyone left with their bellies full. Always an optimist with a gift to find the good in everyone. She also enjoyed caring for her many wild birds and woodland creatures.

In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband: Delore McGhee; son: Dennis McGhee; grandson: Isaiah Orick; six sisters: infant Lena Mae Yancey, Bertha (Charlie) Thompon, Christene Duncan, Burnell (Clifton) Ellis, Rosa Mae (Tom) Reid, Truie. (Allen) Denny; six brothers: infants Willie Talmon and Odis Dee, James, Clarence (Althea), Leland, Gurnell (Bud); sister-in-law: Betty Yancey.

Wilma is survived by her daughters: Linda (Billy) Byrge, Charky Orick of Helenwood, TN; daughter-in-law: Margie McGhee of Helenwood, TN; brother: Herman Yancey of Helenwood, TN; sisters-in-law: Verda Thompson of Clinton, TN and Debbie (Dewey) Miller; grandchildren: Jason (Traci) Byrge, Matthew (Brandy) Byrge, Adam McGhee, Tara Orick, Lydia Orick (Marcus) Posey all of Helenwood, TN, Lance (Denise) McGhee, Patricia (Steve) Kidd all of Oneida, TN. Eighteen great-grandchildren: Lily, Nathaniel, Marissa, Grace, Laileigh, Jake, Tyler, Teegan, Fisher, Jack, Finley, Aiden, Dustie, Cameron, Ryker, Silas, Emily, Maddox, and Willow; special nieces: Teresa Terry, Raydean Boyatt; special cousin: Wilma Lee Duncan; many other nieces, nephews and friends; special thank you to friends at Amedisys Hospice Care (Megan, Angie, Keely, and Adam), and Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center.

Friends may visit with the McGhee family on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 3 pm until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 pm in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Byrge and Bro. Sammy Yancey officiating. Music will be provided by the Yancey Family.                 

Committal service will follow in the Peaceful Rose Memorial Gardens in the Paint Rock Community. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons: Jason, Matthew and Nathaniel Byrge, Lance, Adam, and Aiden McGhee; honorary pallbearers will be: Billy Byrge, Ryker Orick, Silas Orick, Herman Yancey, Cameron Kidd, Jake Lawson, Tyler Bankston, Delbert Duncan and Elbert Massengale.
