Winford Slaven Obituary

Winford Starling Slaven, age 86 of Oneida, TN, departed this life on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida.  Born January 6, 1937, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Arnie Foster Slaven.  He shared with his family that he was saved and ready to go to Heaven; and, he was a Veteran of the United States Army.

Winford was a dedicated employee of the Hartco Flooring Company for 42 years.  He was a loving husband as well as a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  Following retirement, Winford enjoyed attending and watching his grandchildren’s activities and listening to and attending Bluegrass music festivals.  He loved fixing things and taking pictures wherever he was. Winford was loved so much by his family and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister:  Lula Slaven; brothers:  MacArthur Slaven and Chester Slaven; sister-in-law:  Imogene Slaven; nephew:  Tim Thomas; and great-great nephew Skylar Layne.

Winford is survived by his loving wife of 66 years:  Faye Slaven; one son:  Mike Slaven and wife Kim; special grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly:  Sarah Poore and husband Kenny, and Joshua Slaven and wife Janelle; 3 great grandchildren:  Klein, Kensie and Kaiden Poore; sister and brother-in-law:  Marie and Gayson Thomas of Oneida; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law:  Phyllis Range and husband Fred of Lebanon, OH, and Marie Slaven of Oneida; and many other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the Slaven family on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Pastor James Roberts and Bro. Crestin Burke Officiating.  Music will be provided by Dallas West.

Committal service will follow in the Foster Cross Roads Cemetery with full Military Honors conducted by the Campbell County Honor Guard.  Pallbearers will be:  Joshua Slaven, Kenny Poore, Dustin Slaven, Jack Perry, Gary Cruz, and Joey Chitwood.
