Yvonne Wright

Delores Yvonne Wright, beloved daughter, wife, mother, ‘Gagoo,’ and friend, went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2021 at her home in Winfield, Tennessee. She was 83 years old.

Yvonne was born on January 2, 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky to Rev. Hurstle and Opal Lay. She married the love of her life, Robert Earl Wright, in July 1959 and enjoyed 43 joyous years of marriage until his death in February 2003. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Winfield, Tennessee and enjoyed serving the Lord by singing and playing piano, including as a member of the traveling gospel group “The Gospel Echoes.”  She loved fashion, jewelry, hair and makeup, and was known around town as “Ms. Hollywood.” She also loved good country cooking, spending time with family, watching classic movies, reading her Bible, and most of all, she loved her God. She found peace in knowing that one day soon she would see her Savior and her late husband in Heaven. And at last, that day has arrived. 

Yvonne is preceded in death by her beloved husband; her mother and father; mother- and father-in-law Lona and Earl Wright; her sisters Christine Vockell, Wilma Jean Crabtree and husband Roy, and Dorinda Layman; sister-in-law Clara Martin; and brother-in-law Jerry Wright; and daughter-in-law:  Marilyn Wright. 

She is survived by her daughter Tammy Davis of Winfield, Tennessee and son John Wright of Knoxville, Tennessee; granddaughters Lesli Davis and husband John of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mallory Davis and fiancé Trent of Knoxville, Tennessee; brothers Bill Lay of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Buford Lay and wife Colleen of Westchester, Ohio, and Jerry Lay of Park Hills, Kentucky; sisters Ruth Irene Ray of Russell Springs, Kentucky and Regina Wolf and husband Tom of Palm Coast, Florida; brothers-in-law Donny Wright and wife Betty of Daniels, West Virginia, Richard Wright and wife Debbie of Winfield, Tennessee, John Wright and wife Tammy of Oneida, Tennessee, and Rodney Wright of Lynn Haven, Florida; as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may visit with the Wright family on Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 5 p.m. until time of funeral service at 6 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Winfield, Tennessee with Bro. Payton Slaven and Bro. Charles Goad officiating. Singing will be provided by Justin Wright, The Chitwood Family, and Irene and Thea Chitwood.
